As a clinical research coordinator at the Parkinson's Research Clinic, I focus on helping people with the disease. I was drawn to this work because I wanted to make a difference in the lives of those affected, especially since parkinsonism is a significant issue in my home country of Ukraine.
Parkinson's disease is a difficult condition with a constant progression that patients are acutely aware of from the beginning. While we can't change the course of the disease, there are many things we can do to support patients and help them adapt and find their way through society. Patients often feel isolated and alone, even when surrounded by family and friends. Our clinical team works to combat this by providing support, explaining the disease and its progression, and offering tips and tricks to help patients and their families.
We work with patients at different stages of Parkinson's, from those recently diagnosed to those who have been living with the disease for some time. Our research offers hope by allowing us to provide new treatments and management techniques by analysing each patient's data. Ultimately, my goal is to help patients with Parkinson's disease live the best quality of life possible despite their challenges.
