After learning of a Parkinson’s case among our acquaintances, my wife read up on the condition. As she learned more, she noticed I had also been showing some early symptoms. I had been dragging my feet, speaking more slowly, and becoming less fluid in my movements. My doctor noticed the same things, leading to the formal diagnosis last June.
My wife and I have since tackled the disease as a team, and we keep informed together. Additionally, we stay active by hiking and cycling as much as my back problems allow. We have also found simple tricks to train my declining fine motor skills, such as closing the buttons on my shirts after ironing
Apart from the support from my wife, I’ve found a great routine by participating in the Parkinson Luxembourg meetings in Dahl, close to where I live. After the gymnastics session, it's nice to chat with other people living with the disease, and I hope that Project Nord will be extended further. I am also looking forward to learning more about how I can get involved in research studies at the upcoming World Parkinson event in Leudelange!
