Parkinson's Fighter: Carole & Sylvia

Every day we encounter lots of faces of Parkinson’s disease because THE typical Parkinson’s patient does not exist. We find our work fascinating, and as the speech and language therapy evolves positively in this domain, most patients are really improving after one or a few sessions of training. During our studies, we learned exercises that one could do with Parkinson's patients, but we never saw improvements in the patients, which was highly frustrating for the patients and for the therapists… So, now here we are: we learn about the specific needs of people with Parkinson’s disease and we can help them: that’s why we became therapists. Most of the patients are warm-hearted and grateful that somebody will finally help them to really improve their speech and swallowing. That’s what motivates us every day in this work. We really hope that ParkinsonNet Luxembourg will improve the quality of life of our patients by offering them integrated care of physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, but later also of nurses, dieticians, neuropsychologists, psychologists, as well as neurologists and general practitioners.
