Your participation: Forming a group of voluneers

To put together this new group of participants (also called a cohort), first, an online survey will be carried out. It will target people aged 50 - 80 years old with internet access, without any known age-related neurodegenerative disease, and who currently live in Luxembourg or the Greater Region.

TThe online questionnairecovers questions about factors that, according to current knowledge, can be associated with an increased risk of Parkinson’s disease or other age-related diseases of the brain.

Based on the participant's answers, the study team will contact a subset of participants to complete a smell test they will receive via post at home. Finally, some of these participants completing the smell test will be invited for detailed in-person clinical examinations at our Research Clinic.

You can choose to participate only in the first phase (online questionnaire and smell test) or, if invited, join the following study step of an in-person visit. You are free to change your mind at any time.

Benefits for the participants

The main reason to participate is to help researchers better understand and find better treatments for age-related neurodegenerative disorders.

There is no direct benefit from participating in this study, and there will be no compensation or remuneration given for your involvement or any subsequent developments resulting from the study. However, your participation is important because you will provide information to improve research on neurodegenerative diseases, such as finding ways to diagnose age-related neurodegenerative diseases at the earliest possible stage. This would potentially pave the way for better treatments and cures, benefiting people worldwide with age-related neurodegenerative diseases.
