It is often believed that Parkinson's disease does not affect the senses. However, many people with Parkinsonism have a decrease in the ability to smell. Not uncommonly, this is one of the early or even very first manifestations of the disease, which can manifest already many years before occurance of motor symptoms such as shaking and hence long before the diagnosis of the disease.
