On Saturday 30th of May 2015, the NCER-PD Clinical Team travelled to Trier in Germany where the patient organization „Jung und Parkinson“ organized a cinema day to show films and presentations about Parkinson’s disease.
„We are delighted to receive so much interest about the Luxembourg Parkinson Studie even outside the Dukedom“, says Prof. Dr. Rejko Krüger, neurologist and coordinator of the study. In his presentation Krüger explains the aims of the new NCER-PD research programme, in which also patients from the Greater Region can participate in the future. In addition, the new NCER-PD video, that gives an overview aobut the examinations that participants of the study undergo, has been screen for the first time. It will soon be available online.
Interested visitors could also test some of these neuropsychological tests at the booth oft he NCER-PD research programme Like Rainer Stüber, head of the „Jung und Parkinson“ association, who has already participated in the study in Luxembourg: „We are happy that such a big research project has started so closeby. It was a natural decision that I participated myself and that our organisation would support the project as a whole.“ Around 20 visitors followed the chairman and signed up for the study.
Besides the team from Luxembourg, also the Krankenhaus der Barmherzigen Brüder from Trier, whose Neurology Department participates as partner in the NCER-PD research programme, contributed to the event: Dr. Gernot Surges gave a presentation about deep brain stimulation and Torsten Bernd about physiotherapy. Afterwards visitors could try the Kieser training instruments and wear a „Parkinson suit“ that allowed them to experience on their own body how it feels to have Parkinson’s disease. Jung und Parkinson showed also their latest talk show and „The Jupsons“, a cartoon that explains Parkinson’s disease to children.
